Sacramento-based pianist Sakurako Kanemitsu performs works spanning a wide range of 20th century and 21st century piano music. Exploring styles from minimalism, avant-garde, sans tonalité, and contemporary impressionism, she continues to shed light on the ever-versatile nature of the piano. She will perform my piece The Floating Island II, inspired by Yann Martel's Life of Pi, and Für Arvo, an homage to the great Arvo Pärt. The program will include pieces by Henri Dutilleux, Philip Glass, Dai Fujikura, Lei Liang, and Arvo Pärt.

As part of PIOM's faculty recital, Sakurako Kanemitsu will perform my piece The Floating Island II, inspired by Yann Martel's Life of Pi. Kanemitsu teaches piano at PIOM and Suleiman teaches music composition and group lessons in music theory.

Jennifer Reason performs my piano cycle Under Moonlight in addition to other music from the Landscape Music Composers Network, featuring performances of works Christina Rusnak, Linda Chase, Libby Meyer. Each of these pieces are from Citywater's recent collaborations celebrating the fiftieth anniversary in 2018 of the Scenic Rivers and Trails Act. Each performance features images from the river or trail that served as inspiration for the music. They are also premiering a brand new work by Griffin Candey. Mr. Candey's music is garnering critical acclaim and audience attention nation-wide, and Citywater is very excited to premier his newest chamber piece.
