Tyler Tsunekawa: Senior Percussion Recital

At his senior recital performance, Tyler Tsunekawa will premiere Ryan's piece, Drought, for marimba and bass trombone, with Taylor Fong. The work was written to call attention to the devestating drought in California and the impact of humans neglecting the environment. A tremendous percussion player, Mr. Tsunekawa will perform many other dazzling works. A performance not to be missed.

Under the baton of Leo Eylar, the Sacramento State Symphony-Orchestra will premiere the The Red Velvet Violin Suite, arranged from the symphonic puppet show for children commissioned by the Davis Orchestral Music Association and performed at Davis High School. The concert will also feature works by Dvorak and Beethoven.

The amazing Left Coast Chamber Ensemble will premiere Ryan's new work, Up Close and from a Distance, written for the group and inspired by Ghanaian artist El Anatsui's Hovor II, which is featured in the de Young Museum's permanent collection. Five other emerging composers' newly commissioned works will be premiered as well. The project is funded by San Francisco Arts Cultural Equity Grants Program.

Sacramento's new music group, Citywater, will perform my piece Quintet - Men in the Sun, along with other works at the Valhalla Festival in South Lake Tahoe. The music was inspired by Ghassan Kanafani's novella of the same title about the plight of three Palestinian men fleeing their country during the formation of modern-day Israel.
